2017-2019 Education Director Steve Sassaman

Introducing Steve Sassaman ACA-PA Education Director

It’s my pleasure to welcome Steve into the ACA-PA Executive Council. Currently I’ve not met Steve, but he has a great first name that I’m fond of. He also looks like he is excited about paddle sports and that is exactly what Pennsylvania needs to get the word out about the great padding opportunities in PA.  -Steve Barber ACA-PA State Director

Steve is stoked about recreational paddling.

Steve began paddling in 2004 at a residential summer camp where he taught recreational canoeing. As he continued to develop his passion for teaching others in the outdoors, the water was always a central part of his focus. In 2012 Steve became a member of the ACA and began his coastal kayaking instructional journey. Steve has recently gotten into whitewater kayaking and has dabbled with SUP. Currently he serves as the Assistant Director of Campus Recreation for Outdoor Adventure Pursuits at West Chester University where he coordinates outdoor experiential education programs including backpacking, climbing, and of course paddling. He holds a Master of Education Degree from Abilene Christian University and is a National Outdoor Leadership School Outdoor Educator graduate.

You can contact Steve Sassaman for more information if you would like.

We Have a W I N N E R !

This morning on Newsradio 1070 WKOK Sunrise with Mark Lawrence, we announced that we were giving away two tickets to this Sunday's Dumplings at Dusk event on the Hiawatha Paddlewheel Riverboat to the first person who could correctly identify the name of the John Denver song from which these lyrics come:

"Let the mountain speak, let the rivers run
As the world awakes to the rising sun."

The correct answer is:
Healing Time on Earth

Congratulations to Barb Spaventa from Northumberland!

Not familiar with this one? Take a listen here:

The song is quite appropriate for these times. We hope that Kj Reimensnyder-Wagner will perform this one for us during our one-hour cruise and her live tribute to John Denver.

Please join us as we show our River Love (and eat lots of carbs too!).

Tickets can be purchased through our website:
